Gunj Bakhsh Welfare Foundation has targeted to treat the most common cancer i.e. Breast cancer. Gunj Bakhsh Welfare Foundation has engaged itself to combat this dangerous disease and is starting to establish a Breast Cancer Hospital.

Overview:

In 2022, 2.3 million were diagnosed and 6, 70,000 deaths globally in 2022. Breast Cancer mostly occurs in females at any age but it is most common at the age of 35 – 40 and above, but it can occur in young women as well. About 80% of Breast Cancer Cases are invasive, meaning a tumor may spread from the breast to other areas of your body.

Who at Risk:

• Increasing age women
• Obesity
• Excessive use of alcohol
• Family history 15% cases
• Use of tobacco

WHO Response:

The objective of the WHO Global Breast Cancer Initiative is to reduce global breast cancer mortality by 2.5% per year.
The three pillars to achieve this objective according to WHO.
• Health promotion for early detection
• Timely diagnosis
• Comprehensive Breast Cancer Management

Common Type of Breast Cancer:

• Invasive ductal carcinoma
• Lobular breast cancer
• Ductal carcinoma

Less common breast cancer type:

• Triple negative breast cancer
• Inflammatory breast cancer
• Paget’s disease of the breast

Sign and Symptoms:

Importance of early detection
• Abreast lump or thickening, often without pain.
• Change in size, shape or appearance of the breast.
• Dimpling, redness, pitting or other changes in the skin.
• Change in nipple appearance or the skin surrounding the nipple.
• Abnormal or bloody fluid from the nipple.

Treatment:

• Surgery to remove the breast tumor.
• Radiation therapy
• Medication to kill cancer cells.
• Chemotherapy or targeted biological therapies.
